The internal structure of the motor for industrial fans has a component that is rarely mentioned but is indispensable in the rotational motion of the machine - the shaft. A shaft is a cylindrical object that is fitted between the bearing wheels or gears. In special cases, it can also be square or other shapes. Each section can have different diameters. The parts that rotate on the machine are mounted on the shaft.
There are many types of shafts, including crankshafts, straight shafts, flexible shafts, solid shafts, hollow shafts, etc. The use and study of shafts by people began early and is closely related to daily life. In mechanical design, shafts can support rotating parts and transmit motion or torque.
Shafts have many requirements, and in different situations, they need to be designed and manufactured differently, requiring different materials. Under normal circumstances, high-quality carbon steel in steel has higher comprehensive performance. Most shafts are made of high-quality carbon structural steel. If the torque or load is small, general carbon steel can be used for manufacturing occasionally. Conversely, if the torque or load is large, or in special situations, specific alloy steel must be used for production. Finally, the shaft cannot be connected directly to another shaft, so when a connection is required, we need to use a coupling to connect and transmit motion.
